STEM Goes Red Event Empowers Young Women to Pursue Careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
The American Heart Association is gearing up for its highly anticipated STEM Goes Red event, set to take place on November 12, 2024, at the prestigious Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. This event is a key initiative of the AHA, aimed at inspiring and encouraging young women to explore and pursue careers in STEM fields – science, technology, engineering, and math.
STEM Goes Red is designed to showcase the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available in STEM to young women, who are often underrepresented in these fields. By providing direct access to leading employers, industry role models, and hands-on experiences, the event aims to illuminate the various paths that young women can take in STEM careers.
The event will feature a range of dynamic sessions, interactive panels, and networking opportunities, all aimed at inspiring and equipping attendees from the Philadelphia School District with the knowledge and confidence to pursue STEM careers. Participants will have the chance to engage directly with industry leaders, gaining valuable insights into emerging trends and opportunities in STEM fields.
At the heart of this year’s STEM Goes Red event are the leaders from Bentley Systems, a provider of infrastructure engineering software, who are deeply committed to empowering young women through STEM education and mentorship. Leading the charge as chair is Angela Curry, Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at Bentley Systems. Angela’s legal and corporate responsibility background makes her a driving force in Bentley’s culture and inclusion efforts.
Angela Curry has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to diversity and inclusion, having been honored as In-house Lawyer of the Year at the Chambers and Partners Diversity and Inclusion Awards in 2022, and receiving the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Diversity in Business Awards in 2023. She is passionate about empowering young women to pursue careers in STEM and is dedicated to serving as a mentor and role model for the next generation of STEM leaders.
Joining Angela Curry are her colleagues Ellen Lewis, Senior Proposal Manager, and Gina Mazzulla, a strategist in communications and community engagement at Bentley Systems. Ellen Lewis brings a unique perspective to the team with her background in environmental law and her dedication to community service through initiatives like the Chester County Food Bank’s volunteer garden program.
Gina Mazzulla’s extensive involvement in community organizations and educational initiatives has played a crucial role in developing Bentley’s philanthropic efforts in Chester County. With a wealth of experience from her tenure at The Wharton School and The Institutes, where she specialized in leadership and management development, Gina brings valuable insights and expertise to the STEM Goes Red event.
