Cardiac arrest is a serious medical emergency that can happen to anyone at any time. In fact, nine out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of the hospital unfortunately do not survive. However, there is hope – performing CPR, especially if done immediately, can double or even triple survival rates. This is why the American Heart Association is on a mission to drive CPR education in metro Atlanta through the annual Heart Walk campaign.
Adam Bush, the 2024 Executives with Heart Chair, is leading the charge in Atlanta by encouraging corporate leaders and their employees to participate in the Heart Walk. The goal is to enhance CPR training accessibility, increase bystander preparedness, fund vital research, and ultimately save lives. By getting involved in the Heart Walk, companies in Atlanta can take the first step towards creating a community of lifesavers.
The Heart Walk campaign is a year-round initiative that aims to improve the health and well-being of employees while fighting against cardiovascular diseases, which is the number one killer in metro Atlanta. By participating in the campaign, companies not only contribute to the fight against heart disease and stroke but also help advance the Nation of Lifesavers™ movement, which aims to double survival rates of cardiac arrest by 2030.
Imagine the impact we could make if every home in metro Atlanta had at least one person who was trained in CPR and confident enough to act in a cardiac emergency. By engaging more people in the Heart Walk, we can turn our community of bystanders into a community of lifesavers. The American Heart Association has been a leader in resuscitation science, education, and training for over six decades, and through initiatives like the Nation of Lifesavers, they are committed to ensuring that everyone is prepared to perform CPR in the face of a cardiac emergency.
The Metro Atlanta Heart Walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Lenox Square Mall. Companies interested in participating can contact atlanta@heart.org. By joining the Heart Walk, you can help make a difference in your community and potentially save lives.
