I’m Tired of Wellness B.S.

Look, I’ve been in this game for over two decades. I’ve seen trends come and go. Some of them stick around like bad odors, others fade faster than a New Year’s resolution.

Let’s talk about wellness trends. Honestly, I’m kinda over them. But here we are.

I remember back in 2003, at a conference in Austin, I heard this guy named Marcus—let’s call him Marcus—rambling on about the ‘next big thing’ in wellness. He was all excited about something called ‘detox teas.’ I laughed. I mean, come on, detox teas? Really?

But guess what? They’re still around. And they’re still making people’s lives miserable. (Which honestly nobody asked for but here we are.)

Anyway, I digress. Let’s talk about what’s actually working and what’s just a bunch of hot air.

What’s Working: Sleep, Finally

About three months ago, I was having coffee with a colleague named Dave. He looked like he hadn’t slept in a week. I asked him, ‘Dave, what’s going on?’ He told me, ‘I’ve been trying this new sleep app. It’s changed my life.’

Which… yeah. Fair enough.

Turns out, sleep is actually important. Who knew? I mean, I did, but apparently, the rest of the world is just catching on. There are alot of apps out there that can help you track your sleep, improve your sleep, and basically make you feel like a human being again.

I tried one myself. It was kinda weird at first, but after a while, I noticed a difference. I was less grumpy, more productive, and frankly, just happier. Who knew that getting 36 hours of sleep a week could make such a difference?

What’s Not Working: Fad Diets

Oh, fad diets. Where do I even start? I’ve seen them all. The cabbage soup diet, the grapefruit diet, the baby food diet—yes, that’s a real thing. People will try anything to lose weight fast.

But here’s the thing: they don’t work. At least not long-term. I’ve talked to so many people who’ve tried these diets, lost weight, and then gained it all back. It’s a never-ending cycle.

I remember talking to a friend named Lisa last Tuesday. She had just finished a 30-day detox diet. She looked exhausted. I asked her how it went. She told me, ‘I lost 15 pounds, but I feel like crap. I can’t wait to eat a real meal again.’

Which, honestly, is the point. You can’t live on cabbage soup forever. You need a balanced diet that you can stick to long-term.

What’s Working: Mindfulness

Mindfulness is another one of those trends that’s actually stuck around. And for good reason. It works.

I started practicing mindfulness a few years ago. I was completley stressed out, my anxiety was through the roof, and I needed a way to cope. So, I tried meditation. And it changed my life.

I’m not gonna lie, it was hard at first. I couldn’t sit still for more than a few minutes without my mind wandering. But I kept at it. And slowly but surely, I started to see the benefits.

I was less stressed, more focused, and frankly, just happier. I could handle life’s ups and downs better. I could deal with setbacks without falling apart. It was like a superpower.

And the best part? It’s free. You don’t need any special equipment or fancy apps. You just need a quiet place to sit and a willingness to give it a try.

What’s Not Working: Juice Cleanses

Juice cleanses. Ugh. Where do I even begin?

I tried a juice cleanse once. It was a disaster. I was hungry all the time, I had no energy, and frankly, I felt like I was wasting my money. I spent $87 on a bunch of juice that tasted like grass and made me feel worse than before.

And the worst part? It didn’t even work. I didn’t lose any weight. I didn’t feel any healthier. I just felt like I had wasted a week of my life.

Look, I get it. The idea of drinking your nutrients is appealing. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it feels like you’re doing something good for your body. But the truth is, it’s not sustainable. You can’t live on juice forever. You need real food.

A Quick Note on Gaming and Wellness

Now, I know what you’re thinking. ‘What does gaming have to do with wellness?’ Hear me out.

Gaming can be a great way to relax and unwind. It can help you destress, improve your mood, and even boost your brain function. But sometimes, you need a temporary number for gaming account verification to keep your personal info safe. Just saying.

I’ve seen so many people get caught up in the gaming world, neglecting their health and well-being. It’s important to find a balance. You can enjoy gaming and still take care of your body and mind.

Final Thoughts

Wellness trends come and go. Some of them are helpful, others are just a bunch of B.S. The key is to find what works for you and stick with it. Don’t get caught up in the latest fad. Focus on the basics: sleep, nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness.

And for the love of all that is holy, stay away from detox teas and juice cleanses. Your body will thank you.

Anyway, that’s my take. I’m sure there are alot of people out there who disagree with me. But hey, that’s the beauty of wellness. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. You gotta find what works for you.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a date with my meditation cushion. See you next time.
